Favorite Christmas Songs, and A HOMESPUN GIVEAWAY!!!!

"But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons."
Galatians 4:4,5
(KJV)

Praise God that He sent His Son and that you and I live past "the fullness of the time"!
Aren't you glad we were born in the dispensation of grace?
How grateful I am that Jesus Christ was born!
How blessed we are that He was willing to leave the glories of Heaven,
come down to this sin-darkened world, be born into such meager surroundings,
grow up as one of us, then die upon an old, rugged cross to redeem us and give us eternal life!

Oh, I love Him!
The longer I walk with Him, the more precious He becomes to my soul.

And, I love Christmas time!
More and more so each year!

I find it so comforting.
Regardless what we are going through in this life
or how bad things are around us, the hope that the very first Christmas night brought to us
is a Source of unending, inextinguishable light and constant encouragement.

In honor of our dear Savior and the soon commemoration of His birth,
I wanted to share some of my favorite Christmas songs with you.
I hope you enjoy!

And, because it is Christmas, and because I love and appreciate every one of you so very much,
I am giving away a homespun (literally) original...a genuine, hand-crocheted doily!!!!
Be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of this post.

Quick Creamy Iced Mocha Coffee

2 heaping teaspoons of instant coffee (I use decaf)
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup Half & Half
2 tsp. honey
2 tsp. chocolate syrup (I use Hershey's sugar-free)
(I don't eat refined sugar, so this is plenty sweet enough for me.
Most will want to add more sweetener, to taste.)

Mix boiling water with instant coffee.
Add honey and chocolate syrup, mixing well.
Add 1/4 cup of half & half, pouring the remaining 1/2 cup over a glass of ice.
Pour coffee, honey, & syrup mixture over ice and half & half.

Light a scented candle, curl up with a good book, and enjoy!!

  2. My darling Cheryl, I've entered my name and now I'm posting my answer to the question, ... I don't know if I had to write it in the frame above .. please, let me know if I'm mistaken !
My most beautiful remembrance about Christmas is this:
I was a year and a half old when my grand parents made me found under their Christmas Tree a doll which, for those years, was certainly something new: Rossana was her name, she was able to walk, to talk a few words and to sing, 5 o 6 song I learnt soon; I was just two years old and I do remember I loved her so much, I went around the house taking her by hand and singing with her all day long and for many days and years after I've enjoyed her sweet voice so much ( actually I still have Rossana in a trunk in our attic :) ).

Thank you for this lovely giveaway,
sending blessings on your end of the week
    Dany

    2. Yes I do still crochet occasionally. Not like grandma though, she made afghans for every grandchild, 23 in all and then a baby blanket for each great grandchild! I do small projects like cat toys and last year I made some koozies to take along on a camping/rafting trip that were a big hit. Everyone asked me to make them one.

    3. Wow! Your Grandma sounds very, very sweet and thoughtful. I can't imagine making that many afghans! What a dear lady. :) The koozies sound really neat. I'd love to see a picture of those!

  14. Hello dear Cheryl...oh, I just read your dearly sweet email, and would be so honoured to enter your sweet giveaway...I do apologise, I am on my little sister's account today, but it is me! Kelly-Anne who is one very happy follower of lovely Homespun Devotions...did I ever mention how much I love your blog's name...? So sweet! I too am very glad and truly thnakful that Jesus Christ was born! Without Him, I am nothing and could do nothing...following Him is my greatest joy and my desire in life is to bring Him glory...He is so good to us, is He not?
I love the songs you shared...so delightfully Christmassy! I heard Mark Lowrys 'Mary Did You Know?' many, many years ago whilst cudddled up on my grandparents sofa...such a precious song which brings tears to my eyes! I just adore the words...my favourite Christmas song by far is O come, O Come, Emmanual...especially the instrumental version played by The Piano Guys! Beautiful words and tune...ah...
Now...your grape doily is just too beautiful! What a lot of effort you put into creating it, dearest Cheryl...you do crocheted so beautifully! I see Nancy crocheting and know how long it takes, so I think you are so very kind to give away this lovely...
A favourite Christmas memory that springs to mind, which I shared on dear Stephanie's blog a week ago, was Christmas 2012...
We had invited a dear eldery couple for Christmas dinner, but a few weeks before the occasion, the lady called to tell us some sad news...her husband had passed away...we were heartbroken, and so was she! But her son flew out from Australia to be with her and help her organise her affairs, so they both came to lunch...another friend and her son - she is also a widow - joined us as well, so we had a wonderful full table and you know what, dear Cheryl...? It was our most delightful Christmas ever, and I shall cherish those memories in my heart forvermore...God is so gracious, and where He gives, we can share...it is indeed more blessed to give than to receive as the Bible tells us! Oh...I love to recall that special event!
Thank you again, dear Cheryl...I am so sorry I have not been much a of a regular blogger of late...there is so much happening in our home right now, and I do look forward to sharing with you in an email soon! Sending you much dear love today!
    Hugs always!

  18. You have so many beautiful Christmas songs on your blog today... my daughter has been playing "Breath of Heaven" and others often.... I love it. :) Your crocheted doily is lovely... so much work there.

There have been so many Christmas times... good and hard.... I can't pick a specific "favorite" because I have several, but one of them is when we had so very little in the way of material things... our #2 son had severe medical problems and was a baby at the time. Our #1 son was only about 2 years old... and we had "nothing" for Christmas since my husband was out of work and medical supplies were so expensive, but what a joy to be all together with our baby still alive and out of the hospital. I found some little item I could fashion into a gift for our oldest son and we had a few decorations we put up. It was NOT a materialistic Christmas at all... it was a family time of precious memories. Each day at that time was a matter of doing so many medical procedures for our baby and life was wearing us down, but being together was such a joy.... and it still is. :)

Thank you for your blog, your sweet spirit and your encouragement.

  23. I scarcely know where to begin!! This whole post was such a treat! So, I'm just gonna comment as I re-read it!

Is that the front of your house with the lights? Beautiful! My hubby and spent several hours yesterday stringing up our lights. What took the most time was wrapping six of our big trees with tiny colored lights. I couldn't wait for it to get dark. When it did, we went outside. I carefully looked at the ground until I was far enough away to turn around and see the *full effect*. Do you know that I actually jumped up and down?!

Thank you for sharing your Christmas playlist. My favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night." Of course, more than anything, I adore hearing Handel's Messiah. We used to attend a church that sang the "Hallelujah Chorus" at the end of the Christmas service. Haven't heard it in a while, but every time I do, I am prostrated with a fullness of heart that bursts out from me in utter and unspeakable JOY! I personally think it's a taste of angelic choir...

And then, you end with a giveaway (that is absolutely adorable!) and something delicious to drink!

    Perfect post.

But, I cannot leave without mentioning the MOST important thing you talked about. The glorious, amazing, miraculous appearance of our Lord on earth. I will never be able to fully comprehend the Love that was born in a manger so many, many years ago. To think that THIS Savior lives in my heart?! Wow...just WOW!

For unto us a Child was born...and praise His name, nothing was ever the same again!

    GOD BLESS!
