Asking for Help With A Blog Issue

"But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:19
(KJV)

Sorry to veer off course here, but I figured the easiest way to find the answer to this problem is to ask you, my fellow bloggers, if you can offer a suggestion to my dilemma.
I know many of you are very proficient, and I would love to tap into your expertise,
if you would be so kind!

Every day, at specific times throughout the day, there is an almost identical spike in my blog traffic.
It is very methodical and seemingly intentional.
I do not believe the pageviews are "real".
It is just too obvious to be coincidental.
This has been going on every, single day for the past several months.

I think I have narrowed it down to a particular referring website, and I would like to completely block their access to my blog, if at all possible.
Is there a simple way to block a particular website from being able to infiltrate like this?
I have tried to figure this out on my own, but the results I find with just googling it have fallen short in helping me know what to do.
Is anyone else having this same issue?
If you email me privately, I can tell you the exact website that I believe is causing this.
I would love to know if any of you are being bothered like this and how to stop it.
Any help any of you can provide will be most appreciated!

Thank you ever so much, and may God richly bless you!

  5. Do share if you find a solution, Cheryl. I had a huge spike in my stats a couple months ago, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't from humans. But it only showed on Blogger stats, and didn't really mess with my StatCounter or MapLoco, so annoying as it was, I just did nothing. Now my blogger stats are almost back to normal again.

    1. Oh, my, Bethany, I am so sorry you had to go through that. This happens to my blog every, single day...and it is at specific times. I am not sure how long it has even been going on, because I probably don't pay attention like I should. But, once I spotted it, it has been a steady thing, with no reprieve for quite a while. I will gladly share if I can figure out how to stop this, Lord willing. Thank you for your visit, and God bless you!

  6. Cheryl,
I wish I can help. I didn't realize there were referring websites. I noticed there was a spike too in my traffic. I guess I have a lot to learn about the internet.

    1. I am not sure about Google Analytics? I keep hearing about them, but I don't know much about this stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, my friend. :)

  8. Hi Cheryl, I'm so sorry you are having this trouble.

A couple of months ago, I had 900 views in one day (I don't even get that in three weeks!) and they were all from Russia. Thankfully, it stopped after that one time.

I looked around on Google Analytics and if you don't have an account with Google Analytics yet, you can sign up for it. Once in Google Analytics, lick on the "Admin" tab. Under "Admin" click on "view settings". Once in "view settings" scroll down just a little bit on the right and you will see a caption "Bot Filters". Check off the box where it says, "Exclude all hits from known bots & spiders". Then hit save.

I am assuming that would take care of your problem. This link explains more about why someone would check this box off. http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2014/08/07/bot-spider-filtering-google-analytics/

The problem I could see with doing this is it might stop your website from appearing in search engines, but the article seemed to feel that was less likely.

One article I read made it seem like even if you a have the website, it isn't a real one. You basically have to get it at its source.

I found this article as well that talks about blocking referring websites: https://raventools.com/blog/stop-referrer-spam/

    I hope this helps.

Sending you much love and affection. I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with many blessings. :-)

    1. Dear, sweet Karen! Thank you ever so much! It sounds like your situation was similar to mine, but mine happens every, single day, and has been doing this for several months. It spikes at methodical times throughout the day. I cannot thank you enough for all of the research and time you spent to help me with this. Oh, may God bless you SO much for this! I trust God will bless you and your dear family with a wonderful Thanksgiving! Sending you lots of love and hugs!

  9. Forgive me if this posts twice. I tried to respond on my phone, but I don't think it went through so I'm doing it again from my desktop... I've had similar situations, but I've never noticed any patterns like you describe. If you were to use Google Analytics, you could stop the referring website from showing up in your statistics. But that wouldn't actually stop the referring website from sending traffic to you. It just wouldn't count the traffic anymore. I think Wordpress might have some plug-ins that could actually block the referring traffic, but you aren't using Wordpress and I doubt Blogspot has something similar. My advice would be to make sure you have a very secure password (make it long with lots of special characters), and take advantage of 2-step authentication if it's offered on your email and/or your blog. Unless your blog has actually been hacked and someone has gained the ability to edit or change it, I wouldn't be too worried. It may seem really shady, but it's highly unlikely that it's an actual individual trying to access your site. I do hope you find a solution and I'd be really interested in hearing about it if you do. Let me know if I can do anything to help. I actually really like all this geeky blog stuff. Hugs to you, friend. Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Thank you ever so much, Lisa!! I did sign up for the Google Analytics, but, as you said, this will only stop counting the strange hits, it won't actually stop them. I truly appreciate your help and advice, and I hope all is well with you and your sweet family! Give the baby a hug from me, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!! Sending you love and hugs. :)

  10. Hi Cheryl, usually a spike like that means someone is trying to, or succeeding at posting comments to your older blog posts. Though what they are actually doing is basically putting spam in there. For the longest time I had over 600 comments on one of my older blog posts regarding vitamins. "If you google How to enable or disable comments on Blogger pages & posts" it will come up with a post on blogtimenow.com that should help
