On The Porch In Springtime...and a Lovely Springtime GIVEAWAY!!!

"Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul."
Psalm 146:1
(KJV)

I love porches!
As you can see in the picture below, our front porch is not big...but it is plenty big enough for us.
I love going out there and spending time with the Lord.
Especially, in the springtime.

These are some of the sights I have been seeing over the past few weeks,
while sitting on our front porch, conversing with the Lord.

And, here are some lovely roses that my precious husband brought in to me
from the rose garden he has so kindly planted over the years.

They brightened the window sill over our kitchen sink for several days,
and each time I looked at them, I was reminded of how very blessed I am.
I don't have words to tell God how much I appreciate my dear husband and son
and every, single blessing He so faithfully bestows.
I am glad God doesn't look on the outward appearance, but He looks upon the heart,
because my feeble attempts of transferring gratitude into words would never be able to relay my true heart-feelings to Him.

Of course, this post would not be complete without a picture of our sweet dog, Paige,
sitting in front of these lovely azaleas.

What a pretty girl, so very loved...and spoiled!

There's a corner of our front porch that beckons to me from where I sit in our old rocking chair with peeling paint, listening to the birds sing, feeling the cool, spring, early-morning breeze upon my face.

This is what I see.
And when I see this, I am compelled to go get my laptop and write.

Being surrounded by the songbirds, listening to them praising our amazing God,
inspires me to send up a praise offering of my own...
through prayer and written words.
What could provide better inspiration?

This little corner is also a spot that beckons to Zach.
He often does his schoolwork here, with me sitting in the rocking chair nearby.
Those moments are beyond precious to me.

Remember me mentioning one of my favorite bluegrass songs ever?

If video doesn't load, click here.

My dear, sweet Mom and Dad and I used to love singing those old songs together.
Dad would play his 5 string banjo, Earl Scruggs-style,
and I would play the guitar, and we would sing.
The bluebird song was, and forever will be, one of my favorites.
I can still hear Dad's perfect-pitch, high-lonesome tenor.

Remember when I was missing Mom and Dad even more than usual on what would have
been Mom's 88th birthday, and I wrote this post and talked about the bluebird song?

Well, it was either on that very day, or possibly the next,
that I was sitting on our front porch with the Lord, and something caught my eye.
It was flittering around in the grass, near a dandelion.
I ran and grabbed my camera and began to click away.

Be still, my heart, it turned out to be a bluebird!!!

It was as if God Himself sent this precious bluebird to our front yard.
Somehow, it made me think of Mom and Dad, and I felt comforted.

Pretty soon, it flew up to our gate post and perched there long enough for me to snap a picture.
I wish it would have turned around to face me, but this was the best shot I could get.

One day soon after that February day,
Kevin was working in the front yard, and he called to Zach and me to come and see
something he had discovered.
As he had been looking towards the maple tree, he saw two bluebirds fly out from inside this birdhouse.

We all walked over for a closer look, and lo, and behold,
tucked neatly inside was a precious, little bluebird nest!!!

Since discovering the bluebirds, we have enjoyed watching them, day by day.
When they sense that we are too near their nest, they fly high above us and perch on this wire...

where they can keep their watchful eyes upon their precious babies tucked safely inside the nest they so carefully constructed for them.

Spending time on the porch in the springtime makes me happy.

So happy, that I wanted to put together a special, little giveaway for one of you!
Wish I could send every one of you this special little collection of goodies to celebrate life...
and the fact that God has spared us all to see another Spring season.  ☺

This is what one of you dear friends will win.

(I do apologize to the readers who live outside the US,
but, due to shipping costs, we will only be able to extend this offer to United States residents.
Thank you ever so much for your understanding.)

There is a cute, little, spring-colored, mirror key chain with the Scripture,
"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" on it,

a lovely box that says "A Friend Loves At All Times" and inside the box is a beautiful pad of paper and pen,

(you could actually use the cover of this box as a wallhanging...it is just that pretty and sturdy)

a springy-looking coaster that says, "Miracles Happen Every Day", and gently tucked into the petals of one of the flowers at the bottom is this verse,
"May He give you the desire of your heart" Proverbs 20:4,

clean herbs-scented candle tarts and a beautiful little bar of almond-scented goat milk soap,

a "love~joy~peace" mug with a matching prayer journal and bookmark and pen,

and a purple and pink tote bag that says, "Be still and know that I am God".

If you aren't interested in winning this for yourself,
it would make a lovely Mothers Day gift, birthday gift, or "just-because" gift to recycle
and pass on to someone else!!

  3. What a lovely Spring giveaway! My favorite place to pray and just "be" is on the couch late at night or in bed right before bed. At those times, the house is still and quiet and I can just lay out all my worries, praises, and requests before my Heavenly Father.

Wishing you a beautiful upcoming weekend!

  4. Oh I love the blue birds! I enjoy watching birds in general, they always make me think of "His eye is on the sparrow." My favorite place to pray is at the lake. The rest of the year, or when I!m home it's in my knitting chair. Of course I also pray in bed before sleeping and upon waking up. I guess wherever I talk to the Lord I'm happy. :-)

    1. Yes, seeing the birds makes me think of the verse where Jesus said that we are more valuable than many sparrows! If He takes that much care and put that much detail into those precious birds, how much more must He love and care for us, dear friend? Such sweet thoughts we are sharing together this morning! Thank you ever so much for your precious visit...you always bring a bright spot to my day. Love and appreciate you, sweet Betsy! Thank you for entering the giveaway, too!

  5. Oh dear Cheryl... I absolutely love this post, and the gorgeous front porch you have... I sure wish I could just stop by for a visit, and smell the beautify of your flowers, and play with your sweet Paige! And the bluebirds... isn't it just like the Lord to do something like that for you! Oh what a precious joy it must have given your heart to see those bluebirds taking up residence in your yard, just when you were missing your parents so... the Lord cares so tenderly about us, even down to minute details like this, HE CARES ! Such joy abounds in our hearts because of Him! I do so love the roses Kevin planted for you! I am hoping to get some planted here this year, as I do so love the roses. You asked about my favorite place to pray and spend time with the Lord... it is either in my rocking chair where I spend my mornings with the Lord, or on or beside my bed... sometimes it changes, but usually I talk the Lord in my chair as I spend my morning devotions with Him. I can understand how it means so much to you to have the beautiful roses and your time with the Lord outside... isn't He a precious friend to us! I do hope to email you back soon... it has been so busy here this week, and I want to visit with you, and see what the Lord has been doing in your life. I love and appreciate you so very much dear Cheryl, may the Lord continue to bless you in all you do for Him! :)

    1. Oh, Elizabeth! I do apologize profusely for not being able to open this to all residents! Perhaps, one day I can do that and not restrict the precious friends overseas! To have never seen a bluebird is to have missed a rare treat. You know, what made the bluebirds' appearance in our yard even more special is that we SELDOM see any, either. In fact, to be honest, these are the first we remember seeing while living in our home for the past over 14 years. So, God just really went out of His way to send comfort!!! So thankful nothing is ever too hard for Him!

  7. I love watching the birds as well. Their little personalities coming out as they perch and call to one another. What a beautiful thought of the memories that spring forth at the precious sight of one of God's most elegant little creatures! My favorite place to pray is our old chair early in the morning before the sun (and children) rise for the day. I couldn't imagine making it through without the joy He gives me when I enter His presence first. Your posts are such an encouragement to me!

I love your front porch, it is warm and welcoming and what a delight to have the bluebirds make their little home with you. I have a family of bluebirds in my yard right now too and I love watching them flutter about feeding the babies.
My favorite place to pray and be alone with the Lord is in the tent my husband set up last year. One of the windows looks over Sharp Top Mountain up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and I love sitting out there alone and sharing my heart with the Lord.

  16. Dear Mrs. Smith,

Your lovely porch looks like a beautiful and peaceful spot to read and pray. How sweet it is that you get to enjoy the bluebirds...and their babies. :) I'm not sure if I've ever seen a bluebird, but I do love them. They're so adorable. :) Some mockingbirds once nested in the roof, and one other time, some nested in our mulberry tree. We got to see the babies after they hatched, but something either ate them or the parents moved the family away because we were snooping around the babies too much. :)

How kind of you to offer a spring giveaway. I love the colorful box. :) My favorite spot to pray is in my room.
I hope you have a most happy day.

  22. What a lovely cheerful post. I enjoyed it so much.

I would like to enter the competition please and; because I live in the UK, should I win, I would like the prize to be given to the very next person who comments here after me; assuming they live in the USA, of course. This sounds a bit legalistic, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

I like to pray almost anywhere. At home, whilst driving, on the bus, train or wherever. Often it is a short few minutes of prayer; just to tell God I'm still OK and thank Him. Sometimes, when I meet someone, and they are telling me all their troubles, I pray for them there and then without them knowing.

    God bless.

  30. Thank you so much for visiting my Blog and commenting there. Much appreciated.

Now that I've commented, does that entitle me to another entry in the give-away draw; and if I win the prize goes to whoever comments after me here?

    God bless.

  32. Dearest Cheryl,
Words cannot describe how deeply your sweet note left on my blog yesterday touched my heart. And then to stop by your blog for a little visit...and see this post. I know that there are no coincidences with our Saviour...and He knew that I needed those comforting words from you...and to read this darling post about your parents and the bluebirds. Thank you so much, sweet friend, for taking the time to share your heart with me.
Since you are asking...my favorite spot to spend time with our Lord is sitting on the rocks down by the shore...we live in a little fishing village on the coast of Maine...so I love to sit on the rocks with my Bible and watch the fishermen pulling up their traps and all the seagulls hoping to catch a "treat"!
Thank you again...you have such a sweet spirit...

  33. Cheryl, your home and your yard are so very beautiful! I enjoyed your bright cheerful photos. I'm sure you miss your momma and papa very much.

I don't have one place to pray, but I can be sure no one will disturb me while I'm doing laundry downstairs!

    Be blessed my friend!

I know you understand this kind of pain and that you miss yours, too. Thank you so much for sharing with us about your prayer time...you are right, if you ever want to be left totally alone, just go somewhere and do something that no one else wants to do! LOL!! Love and appreciate you, dear Laura!

  34. Cheryl, my friend, my favorite place to pray and spend time with the Lord is in my home and, more specifically, my prayer/reading chair in our bedroom. It's a cozy setting in the corner of our room that I added to our house plans many years ago when we were building. I loved your post today. Spring has sprung around your home and you captured it wonderfully. Thank you for sharing and for the sweet giveaway. Blessings to you dear one. :-)

  35. I love your little front porch. That looks like a very pleasant place to be. We were very excited to see a bluebird here recently. I don't remember ever seeing one this far north before. Your giveaway is so sweet - we would love to win.

  36. I am sorry, I failed to answer your question - The place that I go to pray each morning is our living room where I can look to the south out at the Mississippi river going by and see so many beautiful birds and I can also look east and in the winter time often watch the sun rise.

    1. Oh, wow! That sounds like a wonderful spot to pray and listen to God's voice! I don't know why, but when I read your comments, it made me think of that old Charley Pride song that says, "Roll on, Mississippi, Big river, roll..." It would be a beautiful experience to live that close to that great river and pray near it. God is all around, and He can so sweetly be found in the beauties of nature! Thank you for sharing with us here. :)

  38. Hello. I just found your blog through Legacy of Home..but this post brought me to tears. I too love bluebirds;) The giveaway is over but just to join in, my favorite place to pray is walking down our old country road. When I was first saved (aged 39), I would walk and walk and pray on this road. I remember crying and laughing at the same time. I saw 4 rainbows that summer all in about a one month span. I even had an elderly neighbor call me and say, " you know that rainbow looks like it ended right at your house!" What a blessing that was. God bless you.
